Half my heart resides in my chest. The other half is in the water. Since childhood, I have been drawn to the ocean. Coming from a lineage of watermen, I blame molecular memory.
Inspired by Nature's tendency to repeat itself, I am fascinated by aerial and microscopic imagery. Ever notice that the way a riverbed breaks the earth, a tree's roots dig deep, and a mineral's veins all spread out in the same pattern? Micro and macro landscapes so divinely connected...
With periodic visits (never enough) between the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the lush Pacific Northwest, I'm settled into the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and am never at a loss for inspiration. Wanderlust is always whispering. Whether its hitting the road to touch my toes in the salt water or pulling on my boots and trekking into the Shenandoah, Nature keeps me in the studio, immersing myself in memory of place. Each painting is a meandering of memory - an escape to the water, a rocky coastline, a mossy forest, or to the sand.
